My (newest model) Samsung TV and Vizio Soundbar both have ARC HDMI connectors available, so I'm confused why the TV can't 'FIND' the soundbar when I try set it up. I previously owned a Samsung HW-J550/HW soundbar and had no problems with the TV finding it. I returned that soundbar because it had a poor midrange audio quality. The connector on the TV is identified as HDMI-4 (ARC) and the Vizio Soundbar is HDMI-OUT (ARC). The TV setting is: Anynet+(HDMI-CEC) set to 'ON'. I tried the factory supplied Vizio HDMI cable and a second one I already had. At this point, the only way the TV and Soundbar work is with the supplied Optical cable. I'm not happy with the sound quality of Optical v.s. HDMI, plus I want the soundbar to be controlled with the TV remote (volume, on/off etc). Any help or suggestions? I am not familiar with that model sound bar. There is no difference in sound quality between HDMI with ARC and optical. They both carry the same audio formats. There are so many problems with ARC and CEC we always use optical when possible. I would suggest turning off CEC/ARC on your devices and getting a decent inexpensive universal remote, it will make your life easier than trying to figure out ARC/CEC problems. Thanks for clarifying that OPTICAL and HDMI ARC produce exactly the same sound quality. Regarding your suggestion on buying a universal remote, after researching, I found that the LOGITECH-HARMONY 350, should indeed handle both my Samsung UN65JS8500 tv and Vizio SB4051-C0 soundbar. It costs $40 at Best Buy. I'll pick one up to see how it works. Thanks for clarifying that OPTICAL and HDMI ARC produce exactly the same sound quality. Just be aware that optical to optical will carry the same audio; many TVs will not pass 5.1 from an HDMI-connected source via optical/toslink. So you could have optical from the sound bar to the TV, with your cable box, BD player, game systems, etc. Connected to the TV via HDMI and only the over-the-air content and built-in streaming apps will pass 5.1 via optical to the sound bar while your cable, BD, and game will pass stereo. In such cases, you can get an optical switch and plug everything into it, then have it connect to the TV or just plug in the devices you want true 5.1 from directly to the sound bar via optical or HDMI, then switch the sources. Despite that, the Vizio sound bar powers on/off with the TV, and the TV remote controls the volume. The hitch is, it works about 90% of the time. The other 10% is a mix of symptoms, from no audio at all, to TV audio, to both Vizio and TV audio, to won't power on, or off. Firmware level on the Samsung was 1440 and 1443. Engaged Vizio support, but was a waste of time. Haven't tried Samsung yet, but probably will when I can waste a day. © 2017 Samsung Electronics America, Inc.
